Two stainless marker/gauge "nails" are provided in the implant placement kit: longer for anterior use, shorter for posterior use. This instrument is used in two applications:
  1. As a tissue punch marker through the pilot drill guide to again check the correct start point for the pilot hole drill and finally the implant itself.
  2. As a bone depth and direction gauge in the pilot drill hole as determined via a P.A. film. The marker/gauge has deeply inscribed rings on the shaft at 11, 13, and 15mm that are easily seen on the film taken after the gauge is inserted fully into the pilot drill hole. Therefore, the needed M/D direction and depth of the pilot hole can accurately be checked before using the osteotomy drills.
